Getting Close
One more day until we hit the road. I am excited to get started. Everytime I think of this adventure I can't help but sing to myself "North to Alaska, Were going north the rush is on".....
We actuall have met several people here in this RV park that are also going to Alaska. It makes sense since it is only about 20 miles from the Canadian Border. But what I found more interesting is how many travelers are here from Calif. Us Californians are everywhere (shhhh don't say that people don't like us, everywhere)
When we woke up yesterday morning the sun was out, no in, no out..... well, it was out sometimes... So we decided to drive over to Padden Lake and walk the 2.6 mile loop. I am sure glad we did. It was so pretty! Just like everywhere the nice weather brings out the people and this was not exception. The one exception here is that the drizzly/dreary/rainy weather doesn't keep people in either. I guess they are so used to it it doesn't bother them. Or else they figure if they don't go out in it, then they would rarely get to go out! Anyway the walk was awesome. The lake was pure glass with the shoreline reflection of the huge trees that loomed over it. With the many different colors of green it was a sight to see.
In the afternoon we went to the waterfront here in Bellingham and watched as the kayakers finished their leg of the Ski to Sea relay race that is held here every year on Memorial Day weekend. The race consists of 7 legs, Cross Country skiing, downhill skiing, running, road biking, dirt biking, canoeing and then finally kayaking. The entire relay is made up of 460+ teams with a different team member competing in a different leg. (Thats a lot of people for 1 race). It started at 8am with the cross country and ended with the kayakers. We were at the waterfront between 2:30pm to 4pm and only 46 kayakers had come in. Unless they started coming in in groups it was going to be a while before the last one arrived. There was also a street fair and plenty of venders if you were hungry. Next year is going to be the big celebration of this event as it turns 100 years old. You can look it up on the web if you want to know more about it.

As soon as I figure out how to add pictures (except right at the top of the page or in a post of their own!) I will do so.!!
